January 2010
Dear Parents,
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year!
On January 25th, we will begin our yearly Pennies for Patients Drive at CHA. We realize that many of you are making contributions to help the people of Haiti at this time, so it may be difficult for you to support this yearly drive in your usual way. We appreciate any size donation that you can afford. We have a wonderful history with this special program, and we thank you dearly for every cent you donate.
This drive, sponsored by the Middle School Student Council, will begin on Monday, January 25th and will run through February 12th. In case you are unfamiliar with this program, Pennies for Patients is a community service project dedicated to teaching students how to help others by assisting 3,900 Los Angeles blood cancer patients. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. The money raised benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and funds lifesaving research and local patient services. Our school joins over 550 other local schools in this fight.
Last year, our students and families donated $4,358.09 to this worthy cause, and we were very proud of our contribution. As always, coins, dollars, and checks (made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) are accepted. You may also go on-line to donate with your credit card. The students will bring a letter home at the end of the week with more details about the drive in general and about donating on-line. All donations will be included in the classroom collections, and the most generous class will be awarded a pasta lunch provided by Olive Garden.
The tragedy of cancer has touched many of our lives personally, and this is just one way to create hope and relief for those battling the disease now and in the future. Please contact me at if you have any questions about this drive. As always, thank you for your support and generosity.
